Vision Scholarship
Here in Massachusetts, as many as 24% of the students in
economically challenged communities are going to school with poor vision. For
students enrolled in job training programs, the percentage of students with
poor vision is more like 40%. As a state and as a nation, the success of our
economy rests on the talent and education of our students. If 24% or 40% of the
students in economically challenged communities are not seeing as well as they
should, how well do you think they are going to do in school. If they do not
get the education they need, what kind of economic opportunities await them?
We are the Vision Coalition. We
identify the students in these needy communities that have not maximized their
vision potential. We form coalitions with schools, job training instititions,
and mentoring organizations that help us bring these students to eye care
professionals for the eye exams and eyeglasses they need. If the student does
not have the insurance coverage he or she needs, we award him or her a Vision
Scholarship. A Vision Scholarship provides a free eye exam and a free pair of
eyeglasses.
Life is hard enough already. Take it on with good vision.
